What is "animatography"? Today's digital "slideshows" are more than just static images flashing up on a screen. We include visual effects, music, sound effects and animation of our photographs. We were looking for an updated term for what we do, and hit upon "animated photography" or "animatography". While we thought this was a wonderful newly invented word, it turns out it was a term used to describe motion pictures in the early 20th century. What was old is now new again?!
Who are we? Our members are typical amateur photographers with varying amounts of experience, but we come together in an interest to take our imagery to a new level of presentation, we seek to tell "stories" with our images, and to engage our audiences both emotionally and intellectually, be they family, friends, or even the general public. We are open to using every form of media available to us, not limiting ourselves to just a static single frame, we'll be looking at video treatments of photographs, but also video and audio production techniques.
How do we improve? To help us practice, we gather from time to time sharing shows with each other for feedback. Members who learn new tricks, or have other information to share also present at our meetings.
Through critiquing we help members learn to look for the "story" in a setting and take into consideration that the types of shots one does for "artsy" photography are often not enough for a video-style presentation
Can I learn? Yes! We welcome newcomers of all skill levels and backgrounds. Most are shy at the beginning and come to learn how to appreciate a show, but eventually you'll find yourself wanting to try your own hand at digital story telling. If you happen to live in the area around Vancouver, BC, feel free to drop by one of our meetings.

We try to meet at least once a month, the third Thursday evening of the month.
If you would like to join us, send an email to: info@animatography.photoclans.net and check out the meetings page for updates. (we're a small informal group, so our meetings tend to move around)

The WCAG Tour:
We've been complimented with an invitation to present at the Pacific Digital Photography Club on February 22, 2012. A sampling of some of our shows and talk a little about our group. See their website for meeting time and location.
